Autogenics for Better Performance at Work

Autogenics is an established and effective self help technique for achieving better performance at work.

Used for many years by professional and Olympic athletes to enhance their performance in competitive sport, Autogenics can also be used for many other applications such as the work environment, where high performance is key. Autogenics can be used to improve your work performance.

Applications and benefits:

The benefits of Autogenics, particularly its ability to improve endurance and enhance mental and physical performance, have long been recognised by many of those in management, the medical profession, the armed forces, the police airline pilots and others who need to work effectively under pressure for long periods of time. For example: a 15 minute session of Autogenics can provide the rest and recuperative benefits that are equivalent to 3-4 hours sleep! That, in itself, makes Autogenics an invaluable therapeutic technique.

Autogenics has been used successfully in the workplace:

  • to enhance concentration and decision making
  • improve memory and clarity of thought
  • inspire imagination and creativity
  • build confidence for public speaking and business presentations
  • maximize the potential to maintain effectiveness under pressure.

Development of Autogenics:

Developed by German Neuro Psychiatrist Dr. J. H. Schultz in the 1920’s, with later enhancements by Dr. W. Luthe in subsequent decades, Autogenics is an essential technique that all levels of management should learn. It can enhance their performance at work and also improve their general health and wellbeing.

Autogenics can be used to reduce stress related symptoms such as muscular tension, headaches, migraines, eye strain, repetitive strain injuries, back-ache, high blood pressure, pre-menstrual problems (PMT), irritable bowel (IBS), stress related eczema and psoriasis, insomnia and other sleep difficulties, anxiety and panic attacks, post traumatic stress disorder, and many other conditions.

An Essential Tool:

In our rapidly changing and competitive world, Autogenics has become an essential 21st century technique for enabling executives to maintain their performance at the highest level – whilst retaining a calm, relaxed and confident attitude.

Autogenics is an easy to learn technique that can be fitted into the busiest lifestyle.  Unlike meditation or yoga, that requires a quiet space and period of time in which to practice it, Autogenics can be undertaken anywhere – and in many cases without anyone realizing what you are doing.  Hence, Autogenics can be used whilst travelling on a train or plane, as a passenger in a car, prior to an important meeting or presentation – and even during the presentation itself!

Once you have learned and practiced Autogenics, you have one of the most versatile, effective forms of self help stress reduction therapies available today.

Learning the Technique:

The Autogenics technique can be taught on a one to one basis or in small groups of up to 8 – 10 people.

Comprising a set of mental exercises that are taught over a period of time, Autogenics enables individuals to re-train their brain to respond to stress in a more effective and appropriate way.

As a result of practicing Autogenics, trainees commonly report a feeling of improved relaxation and well being.

Whilst each trainee learns the same set of mental exercises, the outcomes for each individual can be quite different, since Autogenics will give you what you need at that moment in time – whether it is physical relaxation, insight into a problem that has been bothering you, reduction of a stress related symptom …. and so on.

Although Autogenics is suitable for most people, there are a few contra indications for some health conditions as well as situations where close monitoring of symptoms is essential – for example people with diabetes, cardiac conditions and where there are specific psychological conditions.

For this reason, each individual is assessed prior to training to determine their suitability and are monitored closely during the course.  However, for most people, a course of Autogenics is the perfect solution for enabling them to maximize their potential for health as well as their performance at work.

Autogenics is an essential technique for those who wish to perform at their personal best whilst achieving a greater sense of relaxation and well being.

Isn’t it time that you learned Autogenics?

Autogenics is easy to learn, can be fitted into the busiest work schedules and can be practised anywhere – making it a highly versatile and effective self help technique.

The Stress Management Centre runs group and one to one courses in Autogenics.

Our Autogenics Training therapist has many years experience teaching Autogenics for a wide range of applications and became one of the first Autogenics Training Therapists when the British Centre for Autogenics Training was established in the 1980s. Additional training was also taken with Dr W Luthe, who – with Dr J H Schultz – developed the Autogenics therapeutic programme. this included instructions in one of Luthe’s later therapeutic applications – Creative Mobilisation Therapy (CMT).

Autogenics is easy to learn, can be fitted into the busiest work schedules and can be practised anywhere – making it a highly versatile and effective self help technique.
